Surface Transforms: Document Control and Training Management

About the client

Liverpool-based Surface Transforms is the UK’s sole manufacturer of carbon-ceramic brakes for automotive use, specialising in the development and production of carbon-ceramic materials. They use their proprietary material, CCST, to craft lightweight brake discs for high-performance vehicles, including automotive and aircraft applications.

With comprehensive engineering and manufacturing capabilities, they also have the facilities to produce carbon-ceramic brake discs in-house.

Support at every step

The challenge

Surface Transforms previously managed their Quality and Health and Safety processes manually, which proved to be inefficient.

Document control was particularly problematic, as vital documents were stored across various shared drives, leading to unauthorised access and edits, making it impossible to maintain control, a significant issue for the business.

Our solution

When Singlepoint was introduced to Surface Transforms they were immediately impressed with its document control capabilities and the wide range of other modules for Health and Safety, Training Management and Quality Management.

Visual Navigator and the simplicity of the interfaces were a standout addition, providing end-users with highly visual, customised screens for ease of access to the necessary functions.

The Results

Quality engineer Dan Mannion reports a successful and rapid implementation of Singlepoint:

“We have found Singlepoint to be an exceptionally easy tool to use… Visual Navigator has been a really big additional plus point.”

The shop floor has transitioned to a virtually paperless environment, streamlining processes and bolstering confidence in their systems.

Kerry Wood, Quality Manager, praises the swift implementation and the role Singlepoint played in achieving IATF compliance. Features like reminder and notification emails, along with the Training Matrix module, have significantly enhanced operational efficiency and accuracy.

“The team here have done an absolutely superb job… We already have it out on the shop floor, which is now virtually paperless, and so we have so much more confidence in the systems and processes we are running.”

Dan explains the practicality of the system:

“We see a terrific benefit when we up-rev such a document as it automatically flags in the system the need to revisit the training for those affected users.”
