About the client
Flexible Medical Packaging (FMP) is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of medical devices and healthcare products, offering comprehensive contract manufacturing and packing solutions within a tightly controlled, quality-focused environment.
Operating across three sites and employing over 180 staff, FMP specializes in sterile packaging within multiple class-rated cleanrooms. Every process is designed to meet stringent regulatory standards and ensure full product traceability from raw material intake through to the final packaged device.
The company’s commitment to quality is matched by its focus on innovation and customer service.
The challenge
For years, FMP’s quality and compliance systems were almost entirely paper-based. This created major issues with visibility, accountability and audit readiness.
“There was a piece of paper sat on someone’s desk and nobody knew where it was, who had it or if it had even been approved,” recalls Chris Territt, IT and Projects Manager at FMP.
Approvals were captured through handwritten signatures that couldn’t always be verified, making it difficult to demonstrate compliance during audits. There was no clear way to trace a document’s history or identify which version was current.
“I can’t really call what we had a document control system. It was a repository. Our ‘document control system’ was actually a person.” Chris Territt
The lack of visibility was especially challenging in a regulated industry where materials, processes and documentation must all be traceable. With some components used in devices that end up inside the human body, the ability to provide a full audit trail wasn’t optional; it was essential.
When FMP began looking for a modern system to replace its paper-based processes, the team carried out two full evaluations of the market, five years apart.
Each time, even when reviewed against 15 other systems, Singlepoint emerged as the clear leader, consistently outperforming on flexibility, scalability and functionality.
“Every department agreed, Singlepoint was the most flexible, the most capable and the best fit for how we want to work in the future” Chris Territt
Our solution
FMP began by implementing Singlepoint’s document management module, replacing its legacy paper process with a fully electronic, version-controlled system.
“The document management system was huge for us because our old process had so much manual intervention. Singlepoint just does it for us. It’s amazing.” Chris Territt
With the foundations in place, FMP started expanding into other modules, including training management, equipment management and change management. The team was particularly impressed by how easily Singlepoint integrated into their existing ERP system, eliminating duplicate data entry and reducing the risk of human error.
“The integration means we can pull supplier details, addresses and part information straight from the ERP. No duplication, no mistakes, it’s seamless.” Chris Territt
Other standout benefits included the system’s constant evolution and its new collaboration capabilities:
“It’s like they’re developing it just for us. Every time they release something new, it’s exactly what we need.” Chris Territt
FMP also worked closely with Singlepoint’s implementation team to create a bespoke digital database for QA testing records, replacing an old MS Access solution with something faster, more secure and infinitely more scalable.
“They built it in two weeks and made it about 300% better than what we had before.” Chris Territt
The Results
The impact of Singlepoint has been both immediate and measurable.
“Our document management lead did a time and motion study on how long it used to take to process and update-controlled documents. With Singlepoint, those tasks are now so much faster. We’re now saving about 4,000 hours a year, the equivalent of 27 weeks of work.” Chris Territt
Auditors have already praised the system’s clarity and accessibility. With document management now digital, compliance checks that once took hours are completed in seconds.
“We have to be able to trace everything back to the second the raw material entered our building. Singlepoint gives us that audit trail, instantly.” Chris Territt
The platform’s ease of use has also helped drive adoption across departments. What began as an IT-led project quickly evolved into a company-wide change initiative.
“It’s absolutely going to revolutionise the way FMP works. Everyone can find what they need in seconds, no chasing, no guessing.” Chris Territt
The relationship with the Singlepoint team has been another highlight for Chris and his colleagues.
“The entire implementation team have been fantastic, from the project managers, trainers, workflow design, all have been outstanding and have all gone above and beyond. In addition, the support we’ve had from the technical and development teams has been first class, with reported issues addressed and resolved quickly.” Chris Territt
FMP continues to expand its use of Singlepoint, with new modules and bespoke projects already planned. Training automation will be the next major milestone, expected to save hundreds more hours annually once deployed across production areas.
“My vision is that people at FMP will be working in such a different way they won’t remember how they used to work. Singlepoint is what’s going to make that happen.” Chris Territt
Looking further ahead, FMP plans to extend its implementation to supplier management and additional quality processes, continuing to build a unified, fully traceable digital ecosystem.
“Everything about Singlepoint fits how we operate. It’s flexible, practical and constantly improving. I honestly can’t think of one thing it can’t do.” Chris Territt
